Laconia-Robert “Bob” Arthur Malcolm, 64, of 28 Warren Street died Wednesday morning, January 9, 2008 at Lakes region General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Robert was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on August 21, 1943, the son of the late William W. and Evelyn (Stewart) Malcolm. He had lived in various Massachusetts towns while growing up, as well as Deerfield, New Hampshire, eventually making Laconia his home.
While living in Deerfield, Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1959. He served in Korea, various tours of duty to Vietnam, Germany, and Panama. He served with the 101st Airborne. He was also stationed at various bases within the United States, retiring from the United States Army in 1982 from Ft. Campbell, Kentucky with the rank of Master Sergeant.
After retiring from the United States Army, Robert worked at the former Favorite’s Restaurant in Laconia, and also Freudenberg, NOK. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1 and the VFW Post 1670 in Laconia.
Robert is predeceased by his parents, Evelyn in 1978, and William W. in 1998; two brothers, Wallace in 1973, and William in 2007.
Robert is survived by his companion of 20 years, Arlene Beede of Laconia; two sons, Robert A. Malcolm, Jr. of Waynesville, Missouri, and Wallace W. Malcolm and his wife Sherrie of Euless, Texas; a brother, Richard Malcolm of Louisiana; three sisters, Edith Wason of Raymond, New Hampshire, Barbara Hollins of Belmont, and Evelyn “Fran” Yeaton of Acton, Maine; five step-children, Mike Fenell of Waynesville, Missouri, Suzy Stockdale of Newburg, Missouri, Lori Fenell, and Peggy Basford of Laquey, Missouri, and Scott Fenell of Waynesville, Missouri. Several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive Robert.
Services followed by burial with Military Honors were held Monday, January 14, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Rte 3, Boscawen, NH. Rev. Michael C. Graham, pastor of Gilford Community Church officiated. There were no visiting hours.
