Mahlon “Spud” Wilson Donovan, 73, of Derry, NH, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008 in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, due to complications from a fall at his home. Mr. Donovan was born in Derry, on December 11, 1934, the son of the late James and Ina (Wilson) Donovan. Mr. Donovan retired as a trooper from the New Hampshire State Police. He was a communicant at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Derry where he also donated his time in the maintenance of the church.
In his life, he leaves behind; his wife of 49 years, Joanne Donovan of Derry; one daughter, Eileen T. Vogler and her husband William of Manchester, NH and one son, Paul J. Donovan and his wife Barbara of Deerfield, NH; 11 grandchildren, Jason, Briana, Jacqueline, Ian, Jacob, Skylar, Michaela, Matthew, Peter, Thomas and John-Paul; 6 brothers; 3 sisters; many nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Calling hours were held on Sunday, January 13, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday at 10:00AM in the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 187 Hampstead Rd., Derry. Burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, Building Fund, 187 Hampstead Rd., Derry, NH 03038.
