John T. Lindsey, 90, of Tifton died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2008, in Tifton's First Baptist Church Sanctuary. Dr. Wayne Roe and Dr. W. Ches Smith, III will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Gideons and the Board of Deacons at Tifton's First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 11, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Lindsey was born November 1, 1917 in Albertville, Alabama and was the son of A. D. Lindsey and Margaret Stone Lindsey, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ivylyn Adams Lindsey; three sisters; and one brother. He was retired as the Clerk of Superior Court of Tift County and a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church, where he was a lifetime deacon. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia and was a member of Gideons International and the Tifton Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Lindsey is survived by his wife, Jackie Bateman Lindsey of Tifton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Adams Darrell and Ruth Ann Lindsey of Kennesaw, Ron Bateman of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Wayne and Lynn Bateman of Greenville, South Carolina; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cheryl and Jorge Lezcano of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Judy Bateman Shepura of Birmingham, Alabama, and Linda L. and Piercel Bowen Blitch, Jr. of Evans; one brother, James Lindsey of Tifton; 13 grandchildren, Derek Blitch, Jennifer Osborne, Michael Lezcano, Ryan Lezcano, Jason Smith, Ken Bateman, Alan Bateman, Nathan Shepura, Lowell Shepura, Audrey Laney, Carolyn Dalton, Andrew Bateman, and Sarah Bateman; and eight great grandchildren.
