Baker, Douglas born August 9, 1938 of New Milford, NJ passed away on January the 7th 2008 at the age of 69. Beloved husband of 51 years to Dolores Baker. Devoted father to Debbie Crowe, Donna Baker, and Captain Douglas F. Baker, Jr., US Army. Loving grandfather to Kim, Candise, Michael, John and Jacob. Dear great-grandfather of Logan, Jeweliana, and Laylah. Douglas retired as Fire Chief from the City of Englewood after 25 years of dedicated service. Douglas also served the municipalities of New Milford and Dumont as Building Inspector as well as serving as the Fire Inspector for Demarest. As a young man Douglas drove over the road trucking for Wilson Freight. Douglas also volunteered his time to Bergen County Law Enforcement as an Investigator in the BCSPCA rising to the rank of Chief. He was active in the Knights of Columbus as a Third Degree Knight and was also Scoutmaster for Oradell Troop 36. Douglas touched many lives; he taught us what it is to love, to have strength beyond reproach, and to be fair. He will be missed by family and friends alike. Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday and Friday 2-4 & 7-9PM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10AM at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Oradell. All to meet at church.
