Obituary

Francis J. Muldoon, 89, of New Bedford died Monday January 7, 2008 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Bernadette E. (Goulet) Muldoon.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Thomas P. and Mary A. (Greeley) Muldoon, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

Mr. Muldoon was formerly employed as an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, where he had been a member for over 60 years.

He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, where he served as class president. He and his wife were instrumental in founding the Smith Street Center for Retarded Children. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Michael Muldoon and his wife Betty, Francis Muldoon, Dennis Muldoon and his wife Martha, Bernadette Muldoon, and Paul Muldoon, all of New Bedford; his daughter-in-law, Theresa Muldoon of New Bedford; a sister, Mary T. Lowney of Fairhaven; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Mark Muldoon and the brother of the late Margaret M. Quinn, Thomas Muldoon, John Muldoon, and Dr. William Muldoon.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
