Pasquale S. "Pat" Mastronardi, 91, of Norfolk died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Caritas St. Elizabeth Hospital in Brighton, following a brief illness.
He was the husband of Lucia "Lucy" (Spoto) Mastronardi.
Born in New York City, a son of the late Biase Pietro-Vittoria Mastronardi and Giusippina (Antinucci) Mastronardi, he formerly lived in Pelham, N.Y., before moving to Norfolk. He was raised and educated in New York.
Mr. Mastronardi was a retired pattern maker for the Sara Mae Lingerie Co. in New York.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Stationed in Central Europe, he attained the rank of staff sergeant and was assigned to the 102nd Mechanized Reconnaissance Squadron. He participated in the invasion of Normandy, and was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal, with one Bronze Arrowhead, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in September 1945.
He was a member of the Norfolk American Legion, the Norfolk Senior Citizens, the American Association of Retired Persons, Sacred Heart Council Knights of Columbus in Franklin, and was a third and fourth degree member and past Grand Knight of the Pelham, N.Y., Knights of Columbus.
Although a native New Yorker, Mr. Mastronardi was an avid Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and New England Patriots fan. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and travel, especially back to his family roots in Italy. Mr. and Mrs. Mastronardi observed their 62nd wedding anniversary in December.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Richard and his wife, Susan, of Medfield and Andrew P. and his wife, Nancy, of Austin, Texas; a brother, Vincent of Yonkers, N.Y.; three sisters, Gilda Haggerty of New Jersey, Flora Agliata of Arizona and Maria Mastronardi of Kingston, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Sara Addesa, Maggie Filler, Cory Ganschow, Jordan Mastronardi; and one great-grandchild, Owen Addesa.
He was also the brother of the late Anita Natale, Betty Porcaro and Doris Forestieri.
The funeral will be held with military honors Thursday, Jan. 10, at 8:15 a.m., from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home (franklinfuneral.com), 33 Cottage St., Franklin, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin, at 9 a.m.
Burial will follow in Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
