Ralph T. Guarente

Port Charlotte, FL - Ralph T. Guarente, age 83, a former Tewksbury resident and WWII Army Veteran, died unexpectedly Monday, January 7, at the Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Patterson) Guarente, with whom he would have celebrated a 29th wedding anniversary on Sunday, January 13th.
He was born in Everett, MA, on May 27, 1924, a son of the late Albert V. and Ruth (McIntyre) Guarente. He was raised in Everett, and graduated from Everett High School. He later received a degree from Northeastern University. He lived the greater part of his life in Tewksbury, lived as a 'snowbird,' sharing time between Massachusetts and Florida beginning in 1996, and became a full time Floridian in 2002.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army's 717th Tank Battalion in Europe, and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal for injuries received in battle.
His work career was with the I.B.M. Company, where he retired from Senior Program Support.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Rebecca (Burke) Guarente of North Andover; a daughter, June Guarente of North Andover; a sister-in-law, Bette Guarente of Melrose; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy (Bailey) Guarente; a daughter, Carole R. Guarente; and brother, Albert V. Guarente Jr.
His Funeral Service was held Friday, Jan. 11, in the funeral home. Burial with Army Honors was at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Schepens Retina Association Foundation for Clinical Research, 1 Autumn St, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02215-5301, will be appreciated.
