Mattie Ruth Ledford Pitts, 75, of Tifton died Saturday, January 5, 2008, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2008, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Terrell Roberts will officiate with burial to follow in Sutton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leo Walker, Brian Roland, Paul Burns, David Clements, Bill Cowden and Phil Ledford. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 6, 2008, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Pitts was born on May 21, 1932 in Sumner and was the daughter of Asberry Phillip Ledford and Mattie Bell Wills Ledford, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Sim L. Rowland; her second husband, Julius L. Pitts; three brothers, G. D. Ledford, Dewey Ledford, and Talmadge Ledford; and two sisters, Irene Rouse and Marilyn Ledford. She was a homemaker and a member of Tift Avenue Baptist Church.
Ms. Pitts is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Betty Ann Rowland of Moultrie, Rex and Lynette Rowland of Tifton, Steve Rowland of Tifton, Dennis and Jean Pitts of Tallahassee, Florida, and Frankie and Julie Pitts of Moulton, Alabama; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Mike Collins of Clayton, North Carolina, and Marcia and Barry Parker of Flowery Branch; four sisters, Alva Goodson of Lakeland Florida, Opal Hester of Lakeland, Florida, Pauline Burns of Tifton and Margaret Clements of Tifton; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
