Obituary

WORCESTER – Maria Antonia “Tona” Cruz, 45, of 25 Marion Avenue, died Wednesday, January 2, in UMass/Memorial Healthcare University Campus, Worcester.

She leaves her mother, Rosario Ramos of Worcester; 4 children, Salvador Cruz of Florida, and Vanessa, Joshua and Freddy Cruz, all of Worcester; 2 brothers, Alberto Cruz of Worcester and Carlito Cruz of Puerto Rico; 5 sisters, Rose Vargas, Carmen Julia Vargas and Brunilda Vargas, all of Puerto Rico, and Aida Rios and Carolyn Cruz, both of Worcester; a granddaughter, Jarievet Cruz; nieces and nephews, including Jenika Cruz with whom she lived. She was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Cruz.

She was born in Cantano, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Juan Antonio Cruz. She lived in New York City before moving here in 1974. She was a member of Mount Zion Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed listening to reggae music.

The funeral will be held Monday, January 7, at 11:00 AM in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 9:30 to 11:00 AM Monday prior to the service in the funeral home.
