Joseph L. Davis, 81, died Thursday in the John Scott House in Braintree, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Anna M. (Carroll) Davis, son of the late Charles and Mary (McNichols) Davis.
He was born in Boston, brought up in Mission Hill, and he attended Boston Schools.
Joe has been a resident of Randolph for the past 35 years.
He worked at the Eastern Refractory in Belmont as the shipper and receiver for 40 years, before his retirement in 1992.
Joe served in the United States Navy, during WWII.
He was an avid bingo player.
He leaves his children, Joseph Davis and his wife Geraldine of Weymouth, Charles Davis and his wife Mary Louise of Randolph, George Davis and his wife Diane of Taunton, Maureen Howard and her late husband Lesley of Hanson, his daughter in-law Suzanne Davis of Brockton, his brother and sister Francis Davis of California, and Gertrude O’Neil of Middleboro; also 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late John Davis.
His services will be held on Tuesday January 8th at 8:15 A.M. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (RT 58 @ the Rotary circle) Whitman, followed by a 9:00 A.M. mass in the St. Joseph the Worker Church in Hanson. Burial will follow in the Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visiting hours will be held Monday, January 7th 4-8 P.M.
