Rose B. (Guerin) Drolet 78, of 403 Mendon Rd. N. Smithfield, died on January 1, 2008 at The Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. She was born to the late Jules and Alice (Trottier) Guerin in Woonsocket and had lived in the Woonsocket and N. Smithfield areas all of her life.
Rose graduated from St. Clare High School, married the late Rene A. Drolet and together they had five children including a son, Rene N. (Tega) Drolet, predeceasing both.
Rose retired from the State of RI with over twenty years of employment as a senior clerk typist with the Department of Human Services. Aside from her profession, she also worked at the former Fogarty Hospital, and taught physical education part time at St. Joseph’s and Our Lady of Victories’ Elementary Schools.
Rose deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She loved music and shared this joy with her children and was often heard singing aloud. She was a natural philanthropist; donating to charities, sending many notes and cards to people in need and always had a kind word for others. She kept a “God Box” where she lovingly put her private prayer intentions. Rose was active in the Ladies Sodality at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church where she participated in minstrel and variety shows which demonstrated her perpetual sense of humor and million dollar smile.
Rose was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was spiritual, with great enthusiasm for life in spite of her obstacles, and retained an enriching personality. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. Rose ’s legacy will live on in her daughters and grandchildren.
Rose Drolet is survived by her daughters; Sandra Cote and her husband Francis of Blackstone, MA, Susan Drolet and her husband William O’Brien of Spruce Head, Maine, Denise Drolet and her companion Ted Howard of Tenants Harbor, Maine, and Francoise Cook and her husband Jeffrey of Jamestown, RI., her sisters, Marie-Aline Scaramella, Madeleine Morelle, Theresa Drouin, and Andree Jeffords, and her grandchildren Sarah and Matthew Bernier, Kate Damico, Rene White, Nathaniel, Vanessa, and Victoria George, and Elizabeth and Brandon Cook, step-grandchildren, Michelle Washington, Michael Cote and Amy Lahousse. She was also the sister of the late John, Francis, and Edmond Guerin.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 am. from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be held in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham, MA. Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 and 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, in Rose’s memory.
