Richard F. Cushing Sr.
...formerly of Wilmington, raced stock cars; 72
LOWELL - Richard F. "Dickie" Cushing Sr., age 72, a former long time resident of Wilmington, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 2, at the Town and Country Nursing Center in Lowell. He was the beloved husband for 40 years of the late Ruby E. (White) Cushing.
"Dickie" was born in Lowell on April 11, 1935, a son of the late George and Isabella (Noyes) Cushing. He lived the greater part of his life in Wilmington, but moved to his daughters home in Tyngsboro following the death of his wife. He had been a resident of Town and Country Nursing Center for the past seven years. He served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard during the Vietnam War era.
His early career was with the Transitron company in Melrose, but later he founded his own auto recycling business.
He was well known in his early adulthood as a stock car driver at the Pines Speedway in Groveland, and Hudson (NH) Speedway, and was also active in the Woburn bowling leagues.
As a resident of Wilmington, he was an active member of the St. Thomas of Villanova Parish in Wilmington.
He is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Ruby E. Languirand of Chelmsford, Theresa I. Rasp and her husband Douglas of Bedford,NH, and Ruth E. Record of Tyngsboro; a son, Richard F. Cushing, Jr. of Dracut; his step-mother, Leona (Grimmons) Cushing of Hudson, NH; seven beloved grandchildren, Hollie Anderson, Crystal Languirand, Betsy Kusa, Scott Record III, Rory Record, Richard Cushing, and Cassie Cushing; a sister, Carol Paggi of AZ; a brother, George Cushing of Billerica; five great grandchildren, Nick, Jack, Richie, Joshua, and Robert; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also brother of the late Joan Doucette and Doris Cummings.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Jan. 7, in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, Wilmington. Burial followed at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington. Memorials to the Town and Country Nursing Center, Patient Activities, 246 Baldwin St., Lowell, MA 01852 will be appreciated.
