William H. Milam, Jr., age 87, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital – N MS in Oxford, Mississippi. He was born to the late William H. and Norine Elizabeth Young Milam, Sr. in Charleston, MS. He was a retired Air Condition and Refrigeration Technician who worked for the Memphis Hide Co in Memphis, TN. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church of Yalobusha County, MS and an elder in the church for 50 years. Mr. Milam was a founding member and fundraiser for the Sylva Rena Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Board of Directors of Billy’s Creek Rural Water and Sylva Rena Community Center.
The visitation will be held Thursday, January 3, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 4, 2008 in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home and will be conducted by Bro. James Swisher. The committal will be held at 2:00 pm in Memphis Memory Gardens in Memphis, TN. In leau of flowers memorials may me made to the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church or Sylva Rena Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Milam is survived by two daughters, Mary Griffin of Columbia, SC and Helen Swisher of Lake Jackson, TX; two sisters, Betty Wolfe of Vicksburg, MS and Linda Cole of Charleston, MS; two brothers, Dan Milam and Jack Milam both of Charleston, MS; three grandchildren, Brian Milam Swisher, Glen Howard Swisher, and Susan Swisher King; three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Swisher, Nathan Swisher, and Megan Swisher; extended family, John (like a son) & Ginny Wood.
Along with his parents, Mr. Milam was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Hattie Mae Regel Milam (March 2003) and a brother, Edgar Powell Milam.
