Obituary

Joseph J. Cervone, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Medford, Mass. and Meredith, NH, died unexpectedly Friday at Holy Cross Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale. He was 84.

Mr. Cervone was born in Medford, the son of the late Battista and the late Concetta (Vasta) Cervone. He attended Medford schools where he was active in athletics. He played baseball in school, the Legion League and coached little league for many years and was a proud Red Sox fan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he attended the Wentworth Institute and graduated from the University of Maine with a business degree. He owned and operated Medford’s R.J. Black construction for many years. In Florida he worked for the Seminole Tribe as director of construction and development. Most importantly, Joseph loved his family and friends and especially looked forward to spending time with his grandsons.

He was the beloved husband of Joyce (Heath) Cervone. He was a devoted father to Richard Cervone and his wife Vanessa of Lexington, David Cervone of Woodstock, GA, Robert Cervone and Carolyn Cervone both of N. Reading. He was a loving grandfather to Ryan, Christopher and Matthew. He was the former husband of Carol Cervone. He was a dear brother of Leonard “Sugar” Cervone of Somerville, the late Mary DeVincent, Phyllis Picariello, Pasquale, Placido “Zip”, Isadore and John Cervone. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford Friday at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family, Thursday 3 - 7. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
