
James L. Duff, Sr., of Belmont, died Monday after a long illness in the Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, MA.
Born in Watertown, he lived in Belmont for the past 30 years and was the son of the late Katherine (Houligan) and Frank J. Duff. James was the owner of Duff Spring Company in Medford. A business that was started by his grandfather in1875 in Cambridge and moved to Medford in 1967. He was a late U.S. Coast Guard veteran of WW II from 1942 to 1946. James was also a member of the 100 Club, Brigadaire General with the Ancient and Honorable, and the Oakley Country Club in Watertown.
Beloved husband of Betty (Meagher) Duff. Devoted father of Frank J. Duff and his wife Melissa of Georgetown, Deborah Avery and her husband Paul of Newbury, Susan Kostros and her husband Robert of Belmont, Troy Mullane and his wife Tia of San Diego, and the late James L. Duff Jr. Father in law of Rebecca Duff of Winchester. Loving grandfather of James L. Duff III, Mathew B. Duff, Julia Kostros, Sergey and Ekaterina Avery. Brother of Ruth Lynch of Lexington, and the late Kay Abt and Helen Duff. A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Friday at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 8. Interment will be private.
