John W. Hall, 98, of Mattapoisett died Monday December 31, 2007 at home. He was the husband of Helen W. (Burke) Hall.
Born in Springfield on January 2, 1909, the son of the late Michael L. and Helen (O'Neil) Hall, he lived in New York City for many years before retiring to Mattapoisett in 1972.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and lector.
Mr. Hall was formerly employed as a supervisor of data processing for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City.
He was a graduate of Classical High School in Springfield, and attended the Springfield branch of Northeastern University and Fordham University. He was awarded the designation of Chartered Life Underwriter.
He was a member of the New Bedford Port Society and Coastline Elderly Services. He was active in many volunteer organizations and civic groups throughout this area. He enjoyed golf, bridge, theater, and music.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Hall and his wife Bonnie of Rye, NY and James Hall and his wife Margaret of Franklin Square, NY; his daughter-in-law, Maura Hall of Rye, NY; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late John Hall.
