Mrs. Blanche M. (Hamel) Poitras, age 97, of Tyngsboro, formerly of Dracut, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of William J. Poitras, with whom she celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this past July.
She was born in Durham, New Hampshire November 24th, 1910, a daughter of the late Levi & Rosa (Binette) Hamel.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a supervisor with the Raytheon Company, and she also had worked at D'Youville Manor Nursing Home.
She was a long time communicant of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsboro.
According to the family, among her many interests included camping and her cats.
Besides her husband, Bill, she is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law: Lea & Barry Pynn of Milford, NH; Pearl & Larry Goodrich of Tyngsboro, Helena & Gerard Briere of Tyngsboro, Judith & Robert Blazon of Dracut; a son and daughter-in-law: William M. & April Poitras of Eddington, Maine; eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Albert Hamel of Florida, Joseph & Dorrine Hamel of Florida, and Eddie & Etta Hamel of NH; also many nieces & nephews.
She was also mother of the late Lawrence Zwearcan and William Zwearcan.
Visiting Hours will take place Wednesday at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Funeral to take place Thursday morning with procession to begin at the Funeral Home at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Dracut at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
