BEVERLY: George F. Walsh, Sr., 86, died peacefully Saturday, December 29, 2007 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the husband of Rose A. (Bernard) Walsh.
Born in Peabody on July 6, 1921, he was the son of the late George D. and Winifred (Feeney) Walsh. He had resided in Peabody for many years before moving to Beverly fifty-eight years ago. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged as a corporal on February 15, 1946.
George was employed as a truck driver for the former Monroe & Arnold Merritt Express in Salem for forty-four years. He had also driven for Fay Motor Express for several years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Teamster’s Union Local #42 of Lynn.
In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy M. Walsh and Arthur Harris of Capitola, CA, a son and daughter-in-law, George F., Jr. and Carolyn (Fusco) Walsh of Stoneham, four grandchildren, Pamela Beaton of Oakland, CA, Paul Beaton of Reno, NV and Meghan and Kaitlin Walsh both of Stoneham, a brother, William and his wife, Joanne Walsh of Peabody, a sister, Virginia and her husband, William Trask of Danvers, a sister-in-law, Celina Kasprzyk of Salem and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister, Shirley Hatcher and two brothers, Thomas and Donald Walsh.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Margin St. (Rt.114) Peabody at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St. Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
