Obituary


James Palmer Steeves 88, formerly of Whitman and known to many as “Palmer” died Friday December 28th in the Morton Hospital following complications from surgery.

Born in Brockton he was the son of the late James T. and Agnes (Knight) Steeves.

Palmer was raised in Whitman and a graduate of Whitman High in 1938 where he played football for the former Whitman Town Team.

He was veteran of the United States Navy during World War II from 1942 -1945.

He worked for the United Shoe Corp. before working at the Whitman-Hanson Reg. High for more than 20 years.

Palmer was an avid sports fan and followed closely the careers of many
local athletes through their college years. He had great memories of his trips to Winter Haven, Florida for spring training as well as his travels both in the US and abroad.

He was a ten year resident of the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home in Middleboro.

He is survived by his sister Edna Benson of Middleboro, his niece Jacqueline Cowan of East Falmouth, and many great nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ada Gouldrup.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday January 12th at 1:30 PM in the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home, 299 Wareham Street , Middleboro, MA 02360.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Hannah B.G. Shaw Activity Fund at the above address. Calling hours omitted by request of the family.
