Obituary

Joan T. Ward, a lifelong Charlestown resident, died on Thursday December 27, 2007 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief battle with cancer.

Joan was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown, where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1943. She worked for several years as a clerk at The Federal Reserve Bank in Boston and later worked as a clerk for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Welfare Department from which she retired in 1984 after 25 years of service. She was a member of Court St. Jude Catholic Daughters of America.

Joan is the beloved daughter of the late Patrick and Rose (Dunnion) Ward. She is the devoted sister of the late Anne Sullivan, Mary Agnew, Michael Ward, Grace Seagren and James Ward. She is the loving aunt of Pauline Walker of Medford, Donna Milano of Stoneham, Ronald Sullivan of Medford, Jean Sullivan of Braintree, Mary Mahorner and Ann Agnew both of Florida, Thomas Agnew of New York and Jane Woodin of Falmouth. She is the beloved great-aunt of Noralee Walker of Medford and David Walker of Lynnfield and 10 grandnieces and grandnephews.

Joan's Funeral will be held on Monday December 31, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Joan are on Sunday December 30, 2007 from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
