Elizabeth Pollock Sampson BierweilerElizabeth “Betty“ (Sampson) Bierweiler of North Hill Needham died on Wednesday January 15th at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham at the age of 85. Born in Clinton Mrs. Bierweiler moved to Worcester where she graduated from the Classical High School and Salter Secretary School both located in Worcester. Betty worked at the Norton Company in Worcester until 1943 where she enlisted in the U.S. Marines Women’s Reserve . After her discharge in August of 1945 Betty returned to the Norton Company. She later went to work as a secretary for Worcester Poly Institute until she met and married her husband Robert. Betty and Robert moved to Needham in 1950. While in Needham Betty volunteered at the former Glover Hospital for over 40 years spending a lot of time on North II and South One Solarium. While on South One Betty was the Volunteer Coordinator. Betty was also a member of the Congregational Church in Needham for over 50 years. Betty is survived by her loving husband Robert of 54 years , her two children Christine E. Machado of Scotts Valley CA and Allan R Bierweiler of Hyannis. Betty was also the grandmother of Michael and Andrew Machado and Zachary Bierweiler. Memorial services will be held at the Congregational Church of Needham 1154 Great Plain Ave. Needham on Saturday January 25th at 11: 00 AM. Private internment services will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Memorials in Betty’s memory may be made to the Home for Little Wanderers 271 Huntington Ave. Boston MA and to the Congregational Church Memorial Fund 1154 Great Plain Ave. Needham MA 02492.
