Obituary

Remy W. Sharrillo Jr., a life-long Medford resident and life-member of the Medford Elks died Wednesday at the Courtyard Nursing Center, after a long illness. He was 86.

Son of the late Remy and Emma (Vena) Sharrillo, Remy graduated from Medford High and served in the Army during World War II. He was stationed overseas for three years as a surgical technician, where he helped care for the wounded at field hospitals in the Persian Gulf and Europe. Upon return to civilian life he worked with his father as a barber at their shop in Post Office Square. Remy later expanded the business, Remy’s Inc., to larger quarters in the State Street Bank Building where he had a large staff of barbers and valets served Boston’s business elite. Upon retiring as a barber, Remy operated Remy-Jo’s on Beacon St., a card and gift shop. Never one to stay idle, Remy served “meals on wheels” to the elderly for several years, until his health prevented him from continuing. Remy was a dedicated “life” member of the Medford Lodge of Elks and served as function manager for many years.

He was the beloved husband of Norma (Landry) Sharrillo. He was a devoted father to Gail Orlando and her husband Richard, Renee Sharrillo, all of Medford. He was a loving grandfather to Craig and Abbey Orlando. He was a dear father-in-law to the late James Dunn. He was a dear brother to the late Edith Wallerce, Roland, Edmund and Atty. Joseph Sharrillo. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
