Theodore C. "Ted" Rice, of 8 Maple Avenue, Willow Point, West Mystic, died Monday afternoon at his home of cancer.
Ted was born in Cleveland OH on December 21, 1920 the son of William and Janet Isabel (Stokoe) Rice. Raised in and around Buffalo and Scottsville, NY where he graduated from Amherst High School in 1938.
He attended Cornell University and gradauted from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1944.
He met and married his wife Muriel Prince while they were both serving in the Navy. They married in Pensacola, Fla. in 1946. He and Muriel were stationed in countries all over the world including Morocco, England, Iran and Greece.
He is survvied by his wife, Muriel and three daughters, Leigh Rice Darrow of Huntington, MA, Leslie Rice of Mystic, and Julie Rice of Hillsboro, NC. He was predeceased by his daughter, Valerie Rice and two sisters, Sally Rice Wheeler and Jean Rice Goodell.
POST-SERVICE AnnouncementA larely attended funeral service was conducted Monday afternoon at the Shepherd of the Sea Chapel, Gungywamp Road, Groton. Chaplain Crowderfield officiated. Many of Ted's favorite music selections were offered as well as a loving family tribute as spoken by Ted's daughter, Leigh.
Burial with military honors followed at the family plot at Elm Grove Cemetery. The flag was presented to Ted's wife of 56 years, Muriel Rice.
