GLOUCESTER: John S. “Jack” McKay, 75, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 27, 2007, at his home. He was the husband of the late Catherine G. (Critchett) McKay who died in September of 1996. They had shared forty-one years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on October 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Annabelle (Chadwick) McKay. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of St. Ann’s High School. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served for several years in Iceland.
Jack had co-owned and operated Cape Ann Yellow Cab for many years. He had also once worked for B.F. Goodrich and Mighty Mac.
He was a member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion. He enjoyed his trips to Foxwoods. A loving and devoted father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by six daughters and two sons-in-law, Cassie McKay, Dottie deLima, Helen and David Horne, Jo-Ann McKay, Randi McKay and Donna and Michael Dennis, fourteen grandchildren, Jillian Cody, Jessica and Jaclyn deLima, Jami Kolodzik, Jordan, Jacen and Brianna Horne, Courtney and Corey Buffum, Jonaie McKay, Michael, Jr. and Matthew Dennis, Tyler and Trevor Pelletier, eleven great-grandchildren, Michael and Joie Cody, Jayden deLima Silva, Andrew, Ryan and Sophia Trefry, Brett and Julia Gaipo, Michael Marino, Jr., Kylee Michaud and Alyssa Hamilton, his sister, Joan Fennessey, two brothers, Charles, husband of Dorothy McKay, Henry, husband of Grace McKay, a brother-in-law, Joseph Pollizzia, sister-in-law, Barbara Reed, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was also predeceased by a son, John S. “Jack” McKay, Jr., a daughter, Rhonda Lee McKay, his sister, Nancy Pollizzia, and son-in-law, Joe deLima, Jr.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, Prospect St., Gloucester at 9:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday in the Pike-Grondin funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 1 – 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the family c/o Donna Dennis, 327 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
