Gertrude V. (Cotter) Schofield, 93, of New Bedford died Tuesday December 25, 2007 at New Bedford Healthcare Center after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Arthur Schofield.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Helen T. (Crowley) Cotter. She lived in New Bedford for the last 37 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, Nana, and great-Nana.
She is survived by her two daughters, Virginia Souza of Tiverton, RI and Helen Salgado and her husband Bryan of Freetown; her beloved sister Mildred Murphy of Warwick, RI; her sister-in-law, Yvonne Cotter-Boissoneau of Swansea; five grandchildren, John Richards, Jr. of Colorado, Bryan Salgado, Jr. of North Carolina, Donna Crossley of Ohio, Karyn Demers of Freetown, and Kelly Kunkle of Plymouth; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Frank Cotter, Lillian Flynn, and Helen McLaughlin.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM in Holy Name Church, Fall River. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. Visiting hours Friday 4-8PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
