Hazel R. Matteson, 93, of Derry, NH died Sunday December 23, 2007 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry. She was born in New Brunswick, Canada on December 5, 1914, the daughter of Elmer D. and Julia B. (Johnson) Dow. Hazel was a Derry resident since 1979, previously living in Maine. She attended Trinity Assembly of God Church in Derry. She was a member of the Derry Business and Professional Women’s Club, Derry. She loved to travel and spend time with family, including trips to Canada for family reunions. She enjoyed flower gardening. For twenty years she served as a foster mother.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Clark and her husband Joseph J. Clark of Warren, NH, her grandson, Stephen J. Clark and his wife Sundy, of Candia, NH, her sister, Leona Davis of Guilford, ME and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Oliver E. Matteson in 1962.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 1:00pm in the Trinity Assembly of God Church, 53 N. Main St., Derry. The burial will be at a later date in the Valley Cemetery in Pittsfield, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Assembly of God Church, 53 N. Main Street, Derry, NH 03038 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is in charge of the arrangements.
