Obituary


Marjorie A. (Smith) Barley , a lifelong resident of Stoughton, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday December 22, 2007. She was 76 years old. She was the beloved wife of 45 years to the late Buddy Barley.

Born November 3, 1931 in Stoughton, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Clyde B. and Maizie W. (Harding) Smith. Mrs. Barley attended Stoughton Public Schools and was a graduate of Stoughton High School.

Mrs. Barley assisted as Bookkeeper with the daily operations of her late husband's business, Bud’s Auto Repair in Stoughton. Mrs. Barley attended The First Congregational Church of Stoughton, United Church of Christ. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She was also a proud member of The Wedded Ring Society at the church and The Mayflower Society.

Her hobbies included, knitting, crocheting, collecting geneology information, playing bingo and camping at The Viki- Lin Campground in Bridgeton, Maine. She also enjoyed attending her high school class reunions and was able to participate in annual luncheons over the years with several of her classmates.

Mrs. Barley is survived by her children, Susan M. McGarry and her husband Daniel of Mashpee, Jo – Ann Overstreet of Stoughton, Jeffrey S. Barley of East Bridgewater, her sister Phyllis H. Rock – Zubel and her husband George of New Hampshire, her brother – in – law Donald A. Barley and his wife Pearl of Roswell, Georgia, her sister – in – law Eleanor Blye of Norton, seven grandchildren, nine great – grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also a sister to the late Richard H. Smith and his late wife Lee Smith and a sister - in - law to the late Danny H. Rock.

Visiting hours to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend will be held on Friday December 28, 2007 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 P.M. in The Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday December 29, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from The First Congregational Church Of Stoughton, United Church of Christ, 76 Pierce Street, Stoughton. The Pastor Rev. Jean Niven Lenk officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
