Thomas F. McAteer, of North Reading and a former 35 year resident of Charlestown, died on December 20, 2007 at Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. He was 67 years old.
Tom was born in Boston, he grew up in East Boston where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston in 1958. Tom worked 35 years as an Administrative Clerk at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and retired in 2001. He then became a volunteer worker at Charlestown Life Focus Center for the mentally handicapped and also served as a volunteer worker at Boston's Children Hospital. Tom was very active in many Irish social clubs including The Knights & Ladies of St. Finbar Corkmen & Women.
Tom is the beloved husband of Mary (McCarthy) McAteer and the late Kathleen (Looney) McAteer. He is the devoted father of Thomas C., Dennis F. and John J. McAteer all of Maine, Margaret Kelly and her husband George of Charlestown, Michael McAteer and his fiance Alina of Charlestown, Margaret Puglia and her husband Steven, Michael Tannian and his wife Stephanie and Tommy Tannian and his fiance Sharon. He is the loving grandfather of Aidan, Eoghan, Declan, Timmy, Jason, Liam, Patrick, Courtney and Ryan.
Tom's Funeral will be held on Thursday December 27, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday December 26, 2007 from 3 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
