Marinette R. Beckwith of Yarmouthport, wife of Oliver P. Beckwith for 66 years, and a resident of Yarmouthport, died on December 18th at the age of 93 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Beckwith was born in Detroit, MI, grew up in Hastings, NY, and lived for 48 years in Marshfield. During a life dedicated to family and community, she served for years as librarian at the Clift Rogers Library in Marshfield Hills and at Silver Lake High School in Pembroke. She volunteered her time for many different causes, including the League of Women Voters, the Marshfield school system, the Save the Dwyer Farm committee, and for 28 years at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. She discovered one of the core elements in the lives of all her family when she brought them to Corn Hill in Truro for a summer vacation during WWII, where the Beckwith’s met their life-long closest friends, the family of Tom and Dee Dee O'Neil. There, four generations of the Beckwith’s and O’Neil’s have happily and faithfully reconnected each summer for the past 62 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children Stephen A. of Providence, RI, John O. and his wife Marion of Marshfield, Marianne of Scotts Valley, CA and Paul G. of San Francisco, CA; by her grandchildren Bryan (who has just returned from Iraq) and wife Leslie, Sarah and husband Jeff, Oliver, Olivia and Henry; and by her three great-grandchildren Madeline, John and Ainsley.
A Celebration will be held on Thursday, December 27th at the North Community Church in Marshfield Hills at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 4527, N.Y., NY 10163.
