Estelle Chitwood, 97, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, December 22 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Funeral Services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, December 24 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hand and Rev. Sonny Pate officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Chitwood was born September 14, 1910 in Banks County to late Charlie C. and Fannie Foster Barnwell. She resided in Banks County until 1940, moving to Fitzgerald. She was a former employee of the Fitzgerald Mills, Fitzgerald Underwear, and H.R. Kaminsky. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church and the Ladies’ Circle.
Mrs. Chitwood is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Hoyt & Fleda Chitwood of Prattville, Alabama and Ralph & Johnnie Faye Chitwood of Ocilla; four daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Ruth & Carroll Henderson of Irwinville, Ethel & L.T. Mills of Fitzgerald, Evelyn & James Manix of Valparaiso, Florida and Kathryn & Rev. Wayne Davis of Greer, South Carolina; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; twenty great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Charlie Barnwell of Savannah and J.C. Barnwell of Monticello, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband: John Robert Chitwood; one son: Charlie Chitwood; two grandchildren; five brothers; and four sisters.
