DRACUT - Wilfred R. Levasseur, aged 84, beloved husband, treasured father, and friend to many, died unexpectedly on December 21st from a fall in his home.
Born in Dover, NH on August 28, 1923. He was the son of the late Alfred and Emilie (Dumont) Levasseur.
Will attended Lowell High School and St. Anslem's College. He served three years in the United States Navy during World War II.
Mr. Levasseur was the owner of Cote's Market in Lowell until he retired in 1983, but still dropped by to lend a helping hand on an almost daily basis.
In his free time he enjoyed gardening.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Grocers Association and the Lowell Grocers Association, where he served eight years as secretary and treasurer. He was also a member of the C.M.A.C., and the Knights of Columbus.
For the past several years, Will has been involved with the Dracut Senior Citizens and was currently the vice-president.
In addition to his wife of 63 years Gertrude (Cote) Levasseur is survived by two daughters Diane Tardiff and her husband William of New Ipswich, NH and Lowell and Carmen DeLuca and her husband Henry of Pelham, NH: a son Roger Levasseur and his wife Roberta of Pelham, NH; four sisters Simonne Baribeault of Lowell, wife of the late Roger Baribeault, Pauline Cox and her husband Donald of Dracut, Cecile Demers and her husband Maurice of Hudson, NH, and Evelyn Bakalyar, and her husband Robert of Dracut; five grandchildren Bradford DeLuca, Nicole Tardiff, Kerrie (Levasseur) Krawczyk, and Kurt and Justin Levasseur; and three great grandchildren, Olivia and Sophia DeLuca, and William Gallagher.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Thursday from 3 until 7PM. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 9AM followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Dracut. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
