...Tewksbury quilter; age 88
TEWKSBURY - Dorothy Jeannette (Garrigan) Gath, age 88, a senior member of a large and well known family, died peacefully on Thursday evening, December 20, at her Tewksbury home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Charles O. Gath Sr., who died in April, 2002.
She was born in Lowell, on May 30, 1919, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary Jane (Merrotte) Garrigan, and raised in Lowell.. She graduated from the Lowell High School.
In her earlier years, she worked as a millgirl in Lowell's silk textile manufacturing. She worked for several years at the former King's Department Store at the Stadium Plaza in Tewksbury, and worked her entire life as a seamstress and tailor. She was a member of the Tewksbury Quilting Club, the "Piecemakers."
Mrs. Gath was a resident of Tewksbury for sixty eight years, and had been a communicant of St. William's Church for nearly seven decades.
She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Mary Jane and Thomas Bartolone of Tewksbury, and Charlene and James Sullivan of Ft. Myers, FL; four sons and their spouses, David and Marjorie (Stewart) Gath of Tewksbury, Charles O. Gath Jr., of Meredith, NH, John and Lorelei (Bean) Gath of Billerica, Joseph and Debra (Tontodonato) Gath of Tewksbury; sixteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Grangel of PA; her sisters-in-law, Gladys Garrigan of Chelmsford, Alice Pollinger of Lowell, Louise (Marion) Gath of Deering, NH, Lynnette Gath and Edith Gath both of Tewksbury; a brother-in-law, Lucien Monbleau of Tewksbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also sister of the late William, David, John, George, and Edward Garrigan, Josephine Boisvert, and Viola Monbleau.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Dec. 27, in St. William's Church,Tewksbury. Burial was in Tewksbury Cemetery.
