Obituary

Arthur Paul Libman, a lifelong resident of Chelsea, entered into rest on December 20, 2007 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was 81 years old.

Born in Boston, the son of the late Harry & Mary (Harmon) Libman, Arthur was raised & educated in Chelsea. He enlisted in the United States Navy on November 5, 1943 in Boston. He began his service at the United States Naval Training School in Newport, R.I. & then served aboard the USS Decker, the USS Y.O.222, & at the Mare Shipyard at Mare Island, CA. He earned the rank of Quartermaster 2nd Class, & was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Area Ribbon, & the European African Middle Eastern Area Ribbon with 1 star. Arthur was honorably discharged at the USN Personnel Separation Center in Boston on May 12, 1946. Upon returning from military service, Arthur married his childhood sweetheart, Cynthia Madow, & settled to begin their family in Chelsea. For a number of years they enjoyed spending winters at their home in North Miami Beach, FL. Arthur & Cynthia shared true love & affection until her death in 1989. Arthur was a lifelong glazier, & founded Alliance Glass Corporation in Dorchester in 1958. Arthur was still quite active in the operation of the glass company & was honored to have his son Stephen & grandson Todd join him in the family business. Sadness struck Arthur again, with the loss of his grandson in 2006. A lifelong member of Temple Emmanuel in Chelsea, Arthur found comfort in his religion. He was also a member of the Moses Michael Hayes Lodge of Masons. Arthur was a kind & gentle man who will be long remembered as a "mensch". In addition to his love of family & friends, Arthur also enjoyed bowling & golf.

Arthur is survived by his son, Stephen Libman & his wife Donna of Lynnfield; his daughter, Susan Schraub & her husband James of Hollywood, FL; grandchildren, Stacey Libman, C.J. Schraub, & Samantha Schraub; & his brother Robert Libman & his wife Judy of N. Miami Beach, FL.
