Irene J. Peterson, 90

Irene J. (Richards) Peterson, 90, a lifelong resident of Mansfield died on Thursday December 20, 2007 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA she was the beloved wife of the late Arthur M. Peterson who passed away on May 21, 2001.
Born in Mansfield, MA on June 23, 1917 she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Angelina (Levesque) Richards.
She grew up in Mansfield and was a 1935 graduate of Mansfield High School. Mrs. Peterson had worked as an Assistant Manager at the former Betty & Bills Toy Store in Mansfield for 40 years prior to retiring.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield she was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s Club and the Helping Hands Committee at the church.
Irene enjoyed sewing and hand quilting and was a member of the Artful Hands Quilting Guild in Mansfield. She enjoyed gardening, especially at her family’s home in Onset where she had summered for the past 60 years. She loved spending time with her family and will always be remembered for her exceptional cooking skills. A generous person, Mrs. Peterson would always go out of her way to help others.
She is survived by her devoted children; Joan I. Brandt and her husband John of Mansfield and Bruce J. Peterson and his wife Sharon of Montara, California, she was the sister of Mervin Richards and the late Virginia Richards, Ralph Richards, Vernon Richards, Herbert Richards, Arlene Bonney and Audrey Maxwell, also surviving are her cherished grandchildren; Lynda Shaw-Krauth of Attleboro, Pamela White of Rochester, William Shaw of North Attleboro, Maria Barbaria and David Peterson both of Half Moon, California and Michelle Robbins of Sacramento, California as well as 12 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield at the convenience of her family.
