BEVERLY: Dennis N. Bossie, 79, retired Beverly police officer, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Celia M. (Cicchini) Bossie.
Born in Beverly on November 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Alfred J. and Ida (Theriault) Bossie. He was a lifelong resident of Beverly. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Bossie served the City of Beverly as a patrolman for thirty years. He worked in the traffic division for his last ten years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Beverly Police Benevolent Association.
He was also a member of the American Legion, Herman A. Spear Post #331, Vittori-Rocci Post #56, Italian Community Center and the Franco American Club. He was also a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly. An avid golfer, he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing and especially loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to his wife of fifty-three years, he is survived by a daughter, Dianne M. Bossie of Boston, three sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis N. Bossie of Danvers, David J. and Julia Bossie of Wadhurst, England and Dana M. Bossie of Gloucester, three grandchildren, Matthew D. Bossie and Kelly M. Bossie both of Beverly and Kate Rose Bossie of Wadhurst, England, four sisters, Theresa Putur of Beverly, Rita Denis of Orlando, FL, Joan Flinn of Danvers and Doris and her husband, Arnold Lakso of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, a brother, Robert and his wife, Lucy Bossie of Bradenton, FL, a sister-in-law, Norma Pappas of Groveland and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister, Priscilla Chapman and five brothers-in-law, Nicholas Pappas, Frank Chapman, Alphonse Denis, Richard Flinn and Zigmont Putur.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday in St. John the Evangelist Church, New Balch St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to St. John the Evangelist Church, 552 Cabot St., Beverly, MA 01915.
