Edward Carl Davis, 79, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, December 18 at his residence surrounded by family and friends.
Graveside services will be held 12:00 Friday, December 21 in the Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Rodgers officiating.
Mr. Davis was born July 25, 1928 in Ben Hill County to Ruby Stokes Davis and the late J. Edward Davis. He was a 1946 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and attended accounting school in Washington, D.C. Mr. Davis returned to Fitzgerald and went to work for Campbell Coal Company, transferring later to Atlanta. He also was former president of Jackson Ready Mix and co-owned and operated Fulton Concrete Company retiring in 1985. Mr. Davis moved back to Fitzgerald in 1991, where he has been involved in many business ventures. He was a life-long member of the Elks Club and has been an avid supporter of the Georgia Sheriffs Youth Homes for many years.
Mr. Davis is survived by his son: Mike Davis of Wray; daughter: Cindy Withers (Scott Frady) of Winder; mother: Ruby Davis of Fitzgerald; two brothers: Charles H. Davis of Valdosta and Harrell Davis of Zephyrhills, FL; longtime friend: JoAnne M. Gunter of Port Orange, FL; four grandchildren: Jason Withers, Devon Zukusky, Blake Green and Austin Green; four great-grandchildren: Cody Lloyd, Kayla Zukusky, Haylee Green and Riley Green as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Susan Green, son: Joseph Davis, grandson: Norman Lloyd and a brother: Johnny Davis.
