Jose C. Duarte, 55, of New Bedford died December 18, 2007 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the Julio Dias of New Bedford and the late Carlota Duarte, he lived in Senegal before moving to New Bedford in 1983.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Duarte was employed by AFC Cable and Shaw's Dartmouth for the last 20 years.
He enjoyed the Bisca Club.
Survivors include his father; his step-mother, Helen (Alves) Dias of New Bedford; his companion, Regina Mendes of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Carlota V. Duarte-Carvalho and her husband Joseph and Judith "Didi" Duarte, all of New Bedford; 2 sons, Jose O. Barbosa of New Bedford and Joey N. Duarte of Pawtucket, RI; 1 step-daughter, Maria Lopes of New Bedford; 5 brothers, Antonio Santos and Pedro Santos, both of New Bedford, Manuel Dias of Holland, John Dias of Florida and Carlos Lopes of Brockton; 5 sisters, Olivia Santos, Delinda Santos, Caroline Silveira and Maria Santos, all of New Bedford and Elizabeth Tavares of Fairhaven; a granddaughter, Taya Carvalho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Saturday, December 22nd, at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, December 21st from 5-9 PM.
