Ella B. (Polcari) DiMatteo, of Medford, died Sunday at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was 89.
Ella was born and raised in Boston’s North End, the daughter of the late John B. and the late Assunta (D´Alelio) Polcari. A Medford resident since her marriage 67 years ago, Ella was a member of the Santa Maria Lodge in Medford and the St. Lucy Society in the North End. She was a dedicated wife and mother who loved to travel and cook. She especially enjoyed the company of her grandchildren. For 28 years, she spent each winter with her daughter in Punta Gorda, Florida.
She was the beloved wife of the late Rosario “Cy” DiMatteo. She was a devoted mother to Joseph A. DiMatteo and his wife Dodi of Woburn, John R. DiMatteo of Stoneham, Joanne Lancaster and her husband John of Punta Gorda, FL. She was a loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was a dear sister to Louise Bevilacqua of Medford, John Polcari, Josephine Polcari both of Dover, the late Anthony Polcari and Charles Polcari.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family, Tuesday 3 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made in Ella’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
