Obituary

Worcester—Alice “Almas” (Garabedian) Chakarian, 80, died Monday, December 17, 2007, in the Sancta Maria Nursing Facility of Cambridge. Her husband Sarkis Chakarian died in 1979. She leaves 2 daughters, Dianne Chakarian and her husband Kenneth Krikorian of Belmont and Nancy Chakarian of Worcester; 2 grandchildren Zackari and Lanna Krikorian; two beloved sisters, Mary Ann Soderberg and her husband Thomas of Sterling and Zabelle D’Amico and her husband Dr. Joseph of Holden; and several nieces & nephews.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of George and Zabelle (Badrigian) Garabedian and was a graduate of South High. She was an accomplished violinist and was accepted to the New England Conservatory. She owned and operated the family business, Chandler Street Market on the corner of King and Chandler Streets for many years. Alice was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, its Women’s Guild and Bazaar Committee. She was a realtor for 25 years, a member of the Mass. Assoc. of Realtors, and received the Key to the City of Worcester from the mayor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 at Armenian Church of Our Saviour. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m. (7:30 Dahngark Service) Weds. Dec 19 at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester.
