Kardell, of Plymouth, formerly of East Sandwich, December 13th, Caroline L. (Lewis) 78. Beloved wife of the late Paul Freeman Kardell. Mother of Jonathan Kardell of Andover and Jane Linane of Loudon, NH. Sister of George K. Lewis of Bedford, MA and Richard E. Lewis of Palm Coast FL. She also leaves 2 granddaughters, Sarah Parker and Tanya Linane. She was a graduate of Cushing Academy and Lawrence University with a major in history. Caroline was the Historian General for the General Society of Mayflower Descendants for 15 years, during which time she was the driving force behind many initiatives including a major expansion of the Society library. For many years she was the registrar for the Wayside Inn chapter of the DAR. She was treasurer of the Wayland Historical Society, president of the Wayland Women’s club and an active chair member of the Bicentennial Celebrations. Caroline has been a member of the Board of Assistants, Education Chairman, and State Historian of the Massachusetts Mayflower Society. She was a member and former volunteer at the New England Historic Genealogical Society. She compiled the Sandwich Vital Records for the Sandwich Town Archives which has been published in a three volume set. She has assisted with the Townsend Vital Records and has authored several genealogical articles for various quarterly publications. Caroline was a Trustee of the Pilgrim Society, a member of the Antiquarian Society, the Duxbury chapter of the DAR, the Plimoth Plantation and the First Parish in Plymouth. She was the Mayflower Society representative on the Plymouth Economic Planning and Development Committee on Town Celebrations where she chaired the Historic Regiments Parade for the 375th Anniversary Celebrations in Plymouth in 1995. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 19th at 1 o’clock at the First Parish Church, Town Square, Plymouth. Burial will be at a later date.
