CHELMSFORD; Mildred D. (Webb) MacDonald, age 81, a resident of Chelmsford for 37 years, died Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell.
She was the wife of Robert F. MacDonald, with whom she celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 26th.
Born in Melrose on May 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Rebecca (Whidden) Webb.
Mrs. MacDonald was raised in Wakefield and attended Wakefield schools.
Prior to moving to Chelmsford in 1970, she lived in Billerica.
She dedicated her life to caring for her family.
In her early years, she worked for the Lewis Candy Company of Malden. She also spent over 25 years as a loving daycare provider to small children of several families.
Mrs. MacDonald was past president of the Tewksbury V.F.W. Post # 8164 Ladies Auxiliary.
According to her family, during the Vietnam War she was a dedicated volunteer at the Chelsea Naval Hospital and the Edith Nourse Rogers V.A. Hospital in Bedford. In addition, she received a letter of appreciation from Bob Hope for her support of the troops.
She enjoyed many activities especially knitting and flower gardening.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Robert MacDonald and his wife Rachel of Dracut; two daughters, Dorothy Barbieri of Litchfield, ME and Sandra Morrissey and her husband Kevin of Tewksbury; eleven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Steven, Donald, Kenneth, Samantha and Amanda Morris, Richard Morrissey, Kathryn Perry, Robb, Chelsea and Stephanie MacDonald; 13 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. MacDonald was the sister of the late Barbara Sheppard, Melvin, William and Kenneth Webb.
Calling hours Monday, December 17th, from 4-7 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services and interment will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 are encouraged.
