Alyce F. (Nichols) Mendes, 87, of Nantucket died Monday December 10, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the former wife of the late Antone Mendes.
Born in Nantucket, the daughter of the late Joseph Nichols and Mary (Vieira) Nichols Rodericks, she lived in Dartmouth and Nantucket for most of her life.
Mrs. Mendes was formerly employed as a governess for the Joel Anapol family for many years.
Survivors include three children, Carol A. Gomes and her husband Donald, and Robert A. Mendes, all of New Bedford, and Donna M. Fox and her husband J.L. of Nantucket; a sister, Sabena Burgo of New Bedford; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Antoinette and Cheryl Mendes, stepdaughter of the late Joseph Rodericks, and sister of the late Joseph Nichols, Severino, James, and Walter Rodericks.
