John P. Del Monico, 82, a life long resident of Lawrence, MA. passed away at the Holy Family Hospital on Saturday, December 8th, 2007.
He was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on June 26, 1925 to Amabile and Concetta (Colletta) Del Monico. He was raised and educated in Lawrence Schools, and was a graduate of Bethesda Medical School in Bethesda, Maryland. John served his country, and retired after 26 years as a Chief Hospital Corpsman and Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy. Mr. Del Monico served with distinction during WWII and the Korean Wars having earned several Medals of Honor. After retiring from the Navy he worked as the Director of Central Supply & Special Equipment and retired after 20 years having worked at the Bon Secour Hospital (Holy Family Hospital) in Methuen, MA.
In his retirement John spent many winters in Florida with his wife Evelyn. He was a member at the Andover Country Club for 25 years and the Plainsman in Lawrence as well. He enjoyed Golf as a player and also as a spectator. He enjoyed cooking and spending Sunday afternoons with his grand children and great grand children with a good home cooked Italian meal.
Above all else, his family meant the world to him as he meant the world to them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Evelyn (Howshan) Del Monico. Two sons Richard Del Monico of Lawrence, MA and John Del Monico and his wife Denise of Methuen, Ma one daughter Marion and her husband Jim White of Plaistow, N.H. Two sisters Irene Cucchiara of Peabody, MA. Marion Swidrack of Billerica, MA. his brother Genaro Del Monico and his wife Kay of Fort Meyers, Florida. His 7 grand children Heather McFadden, Scott White, Nicholas, Gianna, John, Richard and his wife Christina Del Monico and Melissa Del Monico. Three great grand children Ashley McFadden, Evy White and A.J. Lietz. Also Aunt Jennie Lopiano, Brother-in-law James Howshan of Concord, MA. and his close friend Dallas Deparis, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 14th, 2007 in St. Joseph Melkite Church at 10:00AM in Lawrence, MA. A burial will follow in the United Lebanese Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
