Bridgewater - James P. Flynn Sr., of Bridgewater, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, in Okeechobee, Fla., after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 70.
Born and raised in Bridgewater, a son of the late William D. and Mary M. (Sullivan), he was a 1956 graduate of Bridgewater High School.
Jim worked for many years at General Dynamics in Quincy and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brockton.
He retired after working as a custodian at the Bridgewater Raynham regional school district for 14 years.
He enjoyed many years as a coach in the Bridgewater Youth Soccer League.
He was a former treasurer for the Knights of Columbus 488 in Bridgewater, as well as, the former treasurer for the Brockton Carpenter's Union.
He served for many years in the U.S. National Guard and Naval Reserves.
After retiring, he enjoyed gardening, bike riding and fishing with his buddies, Elmer and Don, on Lake Okeechobee.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen (O'Brien); father of Timothy and Karen Flynn of Virginia, Bridget and Steven Tebou of North Carolina, Maura and Shane Samora of Kansas, Charity and Jim Costanzo of Florida and the late James P. Flynn Jr.; brother of William Flynn of South Dennis, John Flynn of Naples, Fla., Eugene Flynn of Middleboro, Margaret Gorman of Taunton and the late Eleanor Costa and Catherine Bois. Also survived by his grandchildren, Bailey, Collin, Cole, Katie, Isaiah, Jack, Bryan and Melissa. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. Followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
