Sylvia R. Carney, 68, of Derry, NH, died Sunday, December 9, 2007 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry. Mrs. Carney was born in Gardner, MA on October 20, 1939, a daughter of the late Walter and Valery (LaFord) Purple. She was raised in Athol, MA, attended business school in Gardner, resided in Wakefield, MA and has been a resident of Derry since1972. She was also a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Derry.
She is survived by a son, Michael S. Carney of Sullivan, NH, two daughters, Caryn P. Perkins of Derry, Michelle A. Grey of Pennsylvania, seven grandchildren, Brian, Hayden and Liam Carney, Chantel and Tara Perkins, Harley and Dakota Grey, a brother, Norman Purple of Athol, MA, and also by nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Bartholomew J. Carney, Jr. on Jan. 28, 1989.
Following cremation a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. A calling hour was held on Thursday, from 8:30am to 9:15am prior to the funeral mass at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. The burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Derry in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Greater Derry Boys & Girls Club, Box 140, East Derry, NH 03041 or to the National MS Society, PO Box 4527 New York, NY 10163.
