Obituary

Carolyn Y. (Yukna) Babcock, nee Carolyn Ann Yukna, 62, of Marion died December 10, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a period of failing health. She was the wife of Bruce R. Babcock with whom she celebrated her 29th anniversary in May.

Born in Brockton, the daughter of the late Daniel A. and Stacy (Stripinis) Yukna, she had lived in Stanton, New Jersey, and Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as Mattapoisett and Marion.

She attended the Brockton public schools and graduated from The University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a BA in English.

She began her employment as a programmer at Honeywell Corporation and eventually retired from AT&T after a lengthy management career during which she held significant responsibilities in several outside vendor and billing facilities. Subsequent to retirement she explored new career interests as both a personnel shopper and chef.

She was a lover of animals, particularly cats and dogs which she enjoyed as house pets. She also had an avid interest in sports and was fond of playing and watching golf. Additionally, she enjoyed traveling and loved the beaches of St. Johns in the Virgin Islands. Being of Lithuanian heritage, she traveled to the source of her ancestry in 2004 and immersed herself in the culture of Lithuania for ten days.

Her greatest interest and passion focused upon food and cooking. She derived many hours of pleasure watching The Food Network and amassed a vast library of cook books and recipes which she had researched and collected. She was happiest when working in the kitchen preparing to entertain family or friends.

Survivors include her devoted husband, who will miss her forever; her twin sister Kathryn A. and husband Leo of Hubbardston, Massachusetts; two brothers, Dr. Raymond A. Yukna and his wife Charlotte of Denver, Colorado; and Paul D. Yukna and his wife Marie of Milford, Connecticut. Additionally, she leaves two nephews, Ryan R. Sullivan and his wife Carrie and daughters Shea, Kelsey and Elyse and Brendan T. Sullivan and his wife Kate.
