Thomas F. Beals, Sr. 73 of Whitman passed away quietly Saturday December 8th in the Brockton Hospital after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Joyce (Faxon) Beals.
Born in and raised in Brockton he was the son of the late Gerald and Rose (Swan) Beals, and a graduate of Brockton High.
He lived in Rockland for 29 years before moving to Whitman for the last 10 years.
Thomas worked for 19 years for General Dynamic’s as the chief vault librarian of the atomic submarine design and engineering department. During the Cold War he was entrusted with the highest level of security conferred upon non-military personnel.
After retiring in1989, he became well know for his restoration of early American furniture and clocks. He also enjoyed landscaping and gardening.
He was a long time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brockton, the Church of Christ in Easton and the Immanuel Baptist Church in Brockton where he was a frequent soloist.
In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his children, Thomas F. Beals, Jr. of Whitman, Mary Ann Black of Niagara Falls, NY and Cindy Mears of Plainsville, TX his brothers Gerald Beals of Easton, Dr. John Beals of East Bridgewater and George F. Beals of Anne Arbor MI. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Friends and family my pay their respects on Monday December 10th from 7-9 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 @ the rotary circle) Whitman. By request of the family all other services will be private.
