Everett Douglas Mills, Sr., of Acushnet died Wed, Dec. 5th, after many years of battling a Glioma in his brain.
Born Feb. 2nd, 1936, in Providence, RI, son of the late Doris and David Mills, he lived in Acushnet most of his life. He was the former owner of Singer HTG and MVM Mechanical. He was a former member of United Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 77 in New Bedford and a union contractor for many years. Everett served for a period as the President of the Local 77 apprenticeships program.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the post Korean War.
Everett was an avid runner and bicyclist having been a competitor of the Boston Marathon, MT. Washington Road Race, various iron man triathlons and was an active volunteer for many years for the Acushnet Road Race. He loved his family and enjoyed skiing, hiking, kayaking, swimming and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marylin (Wood) Mills; two daughters, Elizabeth Trull of Fairhaven, Judith Furtado and her husband, John of Dartmouth; sons, Everett Douglas Mills, Jr., and his wife, Claudia of Mattapoisett, Peter Mills and his wife, Kelley of Dartmouth, Jonathan Mills and Joshua Mills and his wife, Kathy; four grandsons, Nathaniel Trull, Graham Mills, Lynden Mills, Trevor Furtado; three granddaughters, Laura Mills, Gretta Mills and Shannon Mills; a brother, Russell Mills of Orlando, Fl.; a sister, Nancy Beckley of Remington, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Everett was the brother of the late David Mills of Reading, Pennsylvania; and the grandfather of the late Benjamin Stearns Trull.
