Boylston – Elsie I. (Gustavson) Sjoblad passed away Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the age of 85 in UMass Memorial Medical Center. She leaves her husband of 62 years, Roy Sjoblad; her children Roy D. Sjoblad and his wife Beverly of Hyattsville, MD, Nancy S. Gill and her husband Dennis of Wenham, MA, Jonathan Sjoblad and his wife Stephanie of Raleigh, NC, and Donna O’Driscoll of Northborough, MA; and grandchildren Nathan Sjoblad, Allison Green, Johanna Soyars, Andrew J. Gill, Katelyn, Michael, Griffin and Molly O’Driscoll, and Krister and Karsten Sjoblad plus two great grandchildren, Braylin and Jaxson. She also leaves a dear sister, Norma, wife of Kenneth Ahlberg and also several loving nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by a sister, Vivian Johnson.
Born to Irenes and Helen Gustavson in Worcester, June 27, 1922, she was a graduate of the former Belmont Preparatory School and the North High School. Elsie then attended the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1945. She served in the Nursing Arts Section and the hospital wards. Elsie resumed her nursing profession at Worcester City Hospital in 1969. Retiring in 1986, she was active for many years at Salem Covenant Church in Worcester, on the North High Reunion Committee and also received the Thomas Jefferson Award for her work as a volunteer teacher’s aide at Clark Street School. Elsie was an avid seamstress and enjoyed all her grandchildren. All through her life she exhibited a great concern for those physically ill in hospital or anyone in need or less fortunate. She will be missed by all her family and those who came in contact with her love and concern. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Boylston Pine Grove Cemetery. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester MA 01605 is assisting the family with arrangements.
