PEABODY- Retired Salem Police Lieutenant, Fred J. Czarnecki , 76, formerly of Salem, died Tuesday afternoon, January 14, 2003, at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Peabody, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Jozef and Zofia (Grabowski) Czarnecki.
A Salem Police Officer for over 40 years, he was appointed to the department in 1949 and retired as a lieutenant in 1990.
Mr Czarnecki was an Army veteran of WWII. He served in Germany and held the rank of Tec/5.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph S. and Kathleen A. Czarnecki, Michael A. and Priscilla Czarnecki, all of Danvers, Ronald F. Czarnecki of Salem, two grandchildren, Alyssa Czarnecki and Michael Czarnecki, both of Danvers, two sisters, Justine S. Urbanowicz of Salem, Cassie Solodiuk of Peabody, his former wife, Rose (DeLorenzo) Czarnecki of Salem, his former wife Patricia Newman of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stephen J. Czarnecki, Sr.
His funeral service will be held on Friday at 8 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 am at St Mary of The Annunciation Church, Danvers. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday, 4 to 8 pm. Burial is in St Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
